Vocational Education and Training

Vocational Education and Training (VET) provides an opportunity for schools, training institutes and industry to work together.

At Bayside, our incredible purpose-built Trades Skills Centre includes a fully-equipped commercial kitchen, multifunctional classrooms and outdoor learning spaces to support Vocational Education and Training (VET) for VCE, VCE VM and VPC student pathways.

We are committed to continuing to provide an education committed to our founding purpose.

VET is a required component of the VCE VM Pathway. All students enrolled in the VCE VM Certificate must be enrolled in an approved VET Program. The VET course is a qualification that will develop practical skills and knowledge for a student’s chosen vocation.

VET is an optional component of the VCE Pathway. A VET course can be completed in place of one (1) VCE subject. The VET course must have a Unit 3 and 4 sequence for it to contribute to the VCE Certificate.

VET Courses are available in different industries; Agriculture/Horticulture, Animal Care, Automotive, Building and Construction, Business, CISCO, Community Services, Creative and Digital Media, Dance, Electrical, Equine Studies, Fashion, Hair and Beauty, Health, Hospitality, Information Technology, Music, Plumbing, Sport and Recreation and Visual Art.

Trade Skills Centre

At Bayside, our incredible purpose-built Trades Skills Centre includes a fully-equipped commercial kitchen, multifunctional classrooms and outdoor learning spaces to support Vocational Education and Training (VET) for VCE, VCE VM and VPC student pathways.

We currenty offer two VET Certificate II programs, Agriculture and Cookery, available to both enrolled and external students from the wider community.

The Trades Skills Centre is distinct from other vocational education settings, providing a nurturing environment through pastoral care and mentoring. More than just facilities, our dedicated staff support students to understand that they have been uniquely gifted to contribute towards God’s creative and restorative work on earth.

Students undertaking programs through the Trades Skills Centre develop a wide range of transferable vocational and employability skills. Our programs equip students with invaluable life and work-related skills, and allow them to explore topics such as the production, consumption and distribution of food through a Biblical lens.

NOTE: Apart from VET Certificate II in Agriculture or Cookery which can be completed via the College’s Trade Skill Centre, all other VET courses take place off-site with students needing to make their own travel arrangements.

At the Trade Skills Centre, Agriculture gives students hands-on experience in both hands-on farming and future-focused agricultural science.

Through ‘Local Agriculture,’ students engage with real enterprises on the Mornington Peninsula, learning organic plant and soil health via permaculture practices like composting, mulching, and aquaponics, while caring for on-site livestock including poultry, miniature goats, and alpacas.

‘Future Agriculture’ builds on this by exploring the risks facing traditional farming, from biosecurity threats to exotic diseases, and challenges students to research innovative solutions and emerging species that could shape the future of food production.

For those seeking a vocational pathway, the Certificate II in Agriculture offers a two-year, practically focused VET program covering plant propagation, irrigation, livestock handling, and equipment operation, opening doors to careers in horticulture, environmental science, agronomy, and land management.
