Learning in Primary

Our Primary School seeks to engage students from Prep to Year 6 through a faith-based worldview, helping them see God’s purposes woven throughout their learning and everyday lives.

Students are encouraged to explore, question and grow in their understanding of faith while developing a deeper sense of purpose, wonder and responsibility.

We are committed to continuing to provide an education consistent with our founding purpose.

A Love of Literacy and Numeracy

Strong foundations in reading and maths sit at the heart of our program. Students progress through levelled readers and take-home books matched to their reading level, moving into the Accelerated Reader program in Years 3 to 6, while our numeracy approach brings maths to life through real-world learning from telling the time to measuring ingredients in the kitchen.

Alongside foundational literacy and numeracy, students experience a diverse range of learning opportunities designed to help them discover their interests and strengths.

Through a rich range of learning opportunities, students are encouraged to develop new skills, build confidence and curiosity, and grow as capable, compassionate and lifelong learners.

Beyond the Classroom

Students’ growth is also nurtured through shared experiences beyond the classroom. Annual camps for Years 3/4 and 5/6 build friendships and independence, with age-appropriate activity days, dinners and sleepovers offered from Prep through to Year 2. Regular incursions, excursions and opportunities like Jogging Club and instrumental music tuition further round out each child’s sense of connection and belonging at Bayside.

Student Growth and Wellbeing

Bayside Christian College recognises the utmost importance of creating environments where every student feels known, safe and genuinely cared for. This care extends beyond academic and emotional wellbeing to include each student’s spiritual wellbeing, where we nurture their sense of purpose, belonging and connection.

The Primary School focuses on building a sense of belonging and inclusion through Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), working authentically with families, and endeavouring to support all students. Primary classes engage in programs such as Bounce Back, You Can Do It and Buddies. The College’s Primary Student Wellbeing Mentor provides students with pastoral support and guidance to assist them to effectively access and engage in their learning. The Wellbeing Mentor will also have a range of lunchtime activities and opportunities to meet and support students.
